i know its hard to see based on this picture but there are two ads that are on the page. One of them is for new phones, and the other is for new cars and car accesories. Over my many years of surfing the web i have noticed that if i or anybody else searches a topic a lot of times it will start popping up in little ads all over the place. Its really annoying because it will be on like every website i go on. Ill try to go on twitter or a stores website and little ads about whatever ive been searching pop up asking if i want to visit the website where i can get it ON SALE or with FREE SHIPPING.
Do companies that want to advertise pay extra money to pester us or do the search engines automatically do this?I dont see what type of technique or appeal that they can be using other than annoyance and hindrance. And if it the search engines do they have permission to monitor what we search and then try and make us buy it? i feel like the media is trying to get too connected to our everyday lifes and by these ads popping up all the time that proves it.

Terry Cruz, Muscle Music!!
This commercial is a bit older but its still one of the best Ive seen by Old Spice. In this commercial Terry Crews is using his muscles to make music. When we first see his surroundings and the white things on his body we are like, "Woah, whats going on?" i think this is what Old Spice was going for. They wanted people to be curious about what was going to happen and watch the video. If it wasn't for the TV screen to his side you wouldn't have know its an Old Spice commercial so Old Spice relied heavily on its audience looking around at the surrounding objects in the commercial. The main technique here in this video is gestalt. Terry Crews, surroundings are odd and abnormal and he is in an odd situation. He's sitting down surrounded by wires and instruments flexing his muscles,..this isn't exactly ordinary. It stands out a lot and makes you remember Old Spice next time your shopping. Another technique seen here is Testimonial. They used a famous football player and actor to sell their product. When people see the famous person they start to associate him/her with the product so next time they see him they will think of the Old Spice commercial.
Another thing that the audience couldve connected with the product was muscles. Back then and even now the Old Spice actors are all muscular so people might think that Old Spice gives you muscles. Thats not very logical but you never know what people might get out of something.

Fiat 500
In this commercial they used the need for prominence, need for autonomy, and the need for aesthetic sensations. You can see the need for prominence and need for autonomy because of the color of the car and how it just stands out and looks more elegant among the other, more bland, cars. We can obviously see the aesthetic sensations because of the women. shes beautiful and the man is totally attracted to her and it goes back to the car and how its "beautiful" and attractive.
Another thing used in this commercial is wit and humor. This is used in the beginning when he is looking at her butt and she turns around and starts yelling at him. i feel like a lot of people probably giggled a bit. Its also used in the end when he leans in to kiss the lady and all of a sudden shes not there and hes leaning into the car. The use of this makes the viewers remember the commercial more and i think it was a good idea to include a little bit of humor in the commercial and not all just beauty.
"Write the Future"
Some of the main appeals i noticed in the ad were the need for prominence, the need to achieve, the need to dominate, and the need for autonomy. We can see the need for prominence when Wayne Rooney has the flashfoward about the outcome of his status if he wins or loses the game. In the end when Cristiano Ronaldo has to shoot the shot around the wall we see the need to achieve because the task ahead is difficult and we also see the need for prominence again because he wanted the statue of himself. the need to dominate comes in when the words pop up in the end. I feel like these words relate to the need to dominate because by it saying "Write the future", its giving us inspiration to do what we havent before and rise up higher to accomplish the goals that will ultimately change us. and finally the need for autonomy comes up each time a new player gets the ball because it focuses on them in a crowded enviroment and singles them out.
I dont know if Nike puts in all of these appeals on purpose but they show up in most of there commercails. That inspiration that makes us want to do our best and dominate those around us. Thats why i think that Nike is where it is at today, because they make a deep connection with the people around them.
